Working in a matrix organization

Working in close collaboration, InContext and GSK developed a tailor-made program, the company simulation called LifeSaver. The aim of LifeSaver is to forge the vaccine development teams into a unit operating within the larger GSK organization. 

Setting up this process raised important questions: how do the formal communication lines relate to informal contacts / decision making? How do you align the personal goals of team members and the team goals with organizational goals? How do you promote an enterprise-oriented mindset? How do you find a balance between personal leadership and the willingness to carry out tasks?

Strategy implementation 

Mammoet asked InContext to develop a company simulation as part of the strategy implementation for field and office staff. 

The simulation enables Mammoet employees to act in line with strategy in the preparation and execution of their work and to discuss effective behavior, like cooperation with each other, in a constructive way. Also very importantly employees feel responsible to proactively contribute to the success of Mammoet!

Organizational change

The message of this simulation wasn’t a particularly popular one, so the reactions varied: enthusiasm, resistance, doubt, fear and eagerness. It was all there. 

It was insightful to see how people related to the change message. Yet the message was clear, strategic and related to the business model in every detail.

During the strategy sessions the day after, people couldn’t stop referring to the business simulation. “Paceline” created a common language for the changes that lie ahead of us.”
